The 2023 Evergreen Boys State City Problem Panelists

Evergreen Boys State was proud to host several distinguished individuals from around the community to sit as a panel of judges and listen to presentations from the Mayors and City Council regarding their resolutions to the problems presented to their cities.

Angela Ewert

Angela Ewert is a Legislative Aide to Snohomish County Councilmember Jared Mead. She has a background in economics, public policy, land use, and development. Before joining Councilmember Mead, she worked at a general contracting and architecture firm, leading their government and regulatory affairs team. Angela finds value in connecting organizations with local governments to foster strong relationships and achieving favorable outcomes for the communities they serve. She is also currently running for a Port Commissioner position in her community on Whidbey Island. Angela enjoys serving her local Washington communities and seeks to enrich the lives of the constituents she serves and her neighbors for a better future together.

Hans Christiansen

Hans Christiansen is the Director of Planning and Construction for Evergreen Housing Development Group LLC (Seattle, WA).  Hans has been working as a consultant and development manager for real estate development for 24 years and has experience with projects ranging from multi-family to big box; single-family to commercial.  At Evergreen, Hans is responsible for management of planning, design, entitlement/permitting and construction, for new multi-family projects in Washington and Oregon.  Hans earned a bachelor’s degree in Community & Environmental Planning with a focus on Urban Planning from the University of Washington. He has also earned certificates in Project Management and Commercial Real Estate from the University of Washington School of Professional & Continuing Education.  Most recently he also participated in the Urban Land Institue’s, Northwest Center for Leadership program in 2019.  Hans was born and raised in Western Washington and lives in Bothell, WA with his wife Lindsay and their two sons.

Joe Bushnell

Council Member Joe Bushnell, elected in November 2021, serves District 5, which includes parts of South Tacoma, the South End and East Tacoma.

A lifelong resident of Tacoma and proud resident of South Tacoma for the last five years, Council Member Bushnell has a history of service to his community, which includes having served as chair of the South Tacoma Neighborhood Council. He also represents the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community, and is the first Cambodian-American to serve on the Tacoma City Council.

Council Member Bushnell started his career with more than a decade of service in the U.S. Marine Corps as an ammunition logistics manager. He has also worked on behalf of local businesses in support of economic development through his work for the Washington Hospitality Association in Pierce County, and has served as a Travel Tacoma board member and as a Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Food Advisory Board member. His long history of community service also includes work with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and as a Tacoma Public Utility Board Member.

A graduate of Stadium High School in Tacoma, Council Member Bushnell earned a bachelor’s degree from The Evergreen State College in political science and economics.

Council Member Bushnell’s priority is to elevate the voices of District 5 constituents to ensure their needs are addressed in a thoughtful and sustainable way by the City of Tacoma.
